Sometimes you might get invited somewhere and you need to give a gift. Maybe it’s a party for a coworker or someone else that you don’t know very well. It is difficult because you don’t know them well enough to know what to get them for a gift.

Don’t get too worried. This happens to the best of us. There are back up ideas for gift giving when we really don’t know what to get. It can be difficult, but it is possible.

What do you get when you don’t know what someone wants? You get food. Unless they are on a special diet, you usually can’t go wrong with food. Even if they don’t eat what you get them, hopefully someone in their family will eat it.

The idea is that you want to give them something that is expendable. Do you ever get gifts from people that just turn into more clutter in your home? Have you ever gotten a home decor piece that just doesn’t match your home?

When this happens, you feel awful because you don’t want to put it up, but you don’t want them to feel bad when they come over and are looking for it. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be that person.

Why not give them pancakes for a gift? No, I don’t mean hand them a wrapped plate of pancakes, or even a box of frozen pancakes or a gift certificate to a pancake house for that matter. Although, gift certificates are that bad either.

Go to a nice country store or look online for some fancy pancake mix. Look for something that is unique and different, like blueberry or apple pancakes. Give them something they couldn’t easily make themselves.

Wrap up a couple bags with a bottle of real maple syrup and a nice dish towel for compliments. They could always use the dish towel as a rag if it doesn’t match their kitchen.
